Jan. 11, 2010
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) will be conducting a Bowhunter Education Student ($15.00) and New Instructor (Free) Training Workshop February 20-21, 2010 in Athens, Texas. Workshop will begin at 8:00am — 5:00pm both days at the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center located at the Hart-Morris Conservation Center: 5301 CR 4812, Athens, Texas 75752
We will be training students and certifying instructors in skills trail, live firing exercises and Home Study procedures. The training is National Bowhunter Education Foundation curriculum. Students will benefit by going through actual bowhunting simulations and by making their own decisions regarding responsible actions using "shoot-don’t-shoot" scenarios.
Before you attend this workshop, you must go to the following web site and prepare yourself by going over the Introduction and the first 4 chapters of the instructor training manual. You will sign an acknowledgement and release that you have done this pre-workshop assignment as part of your training. The site is as follows: tpwd.state.tx.us/learning/hunter_education/instruct.phtml
Every Texas bowhunter who wishes to bow hunt at Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge and Camp Bullis are required to pass the student bowhunter certification. Other States may require the student bowhunter certification to bow hunt in that particular state. The Bowhunter Education Program’s goals are to reduce hunting related accidents and violations; promote safe, responsible and knowledgeable bowhunting; and enhance bowhunting traditions and values.
Bowhunter Education provides instruction in Texas hunting regulations, wildlife management and identification, conservation, ethics, tree stand safety and hunting safety and responsibility, and outdoor skills. Bring your own archery gear or we will provide equipment.
By understanding bowhunting through education, hunters and non-hunters alike will help make a bright future for the sport. Now is the time to become involved, so let us know if interested!
