ONE LAST HUNT

Early in 2001, I received a call from a friend of mine.  He wanted to know if there was any way that I could take a friend of his on ONE LAST HUNT.

At the time, the company that I worked for had a 12,000 acre lease in the Mason-Brady area.  We had been on this lease for about 35 years and had grown some pretty impressive horns over time.  When you came to this lease you were hunting a 10 point or better!!

I asked my friend what he meant by ONE LAST HUNT, and was informed that his hunting buddy had terminal cancer and wanted to go on ONE MORE HUNT, before he went to meet his maker.

I relayed this request to our lease manager and ask if it would be ok to invite these two on one of my hunts.  I got the ok, and in Nov. of 2001, I was able to fulfill this mans last request.

I waived the 10 point rule and told him that if a nice 8 pointer or better came in, if he wanted it, to go ahead and take it.  The first morning out, he got his deer!!  It turned out to be a young 8 point.  To see the joy on his face when we went to pick him up, I don't think I would have said anything if it had been a 6 point or smaller!

I think that my crew and I were as happy as, or more so, than he was!  To see the smile on his face made the whole trip worth it.

I got the word about two months later that he had passed on.

I think you will see by the pictures, the joy that was brought his way.
